Comprehensive Eye Exams

A complete and thorough eye exam consists of a series of tests that assess the different aspects of eye health. Maintaining healthy eye sight as we age is critical for quality of life. A comprehensive eye exam should be done not just on patients who depend on vision correction, but even for those you are gifted with normal eyesight. There is so much more to an eye exam than just checking vision. There are a number of disorders and diseases that will only be detected by an eye care professional. Eye exams should start as early as possible, including before school. We incorporate significant time and the latest technology to ensure your exam is thorough and accurate, and our team will take an in-depth look at your entire eye health.

Contact Lens Exams

Getting a contact lens exam is a necessary first step if you want to wear contact lenses (either instead of or in addition to glasses). A contact lens exam can have several parts; including a consultation with the optometrist, measurements of a few key parts of your eyes, an evaluation of the tear film, dry eye testing, and a contact lens fitting. If it’s your first time wearing contacts, this process will include a training to properly instruct on how to safely insert and remove contacts. These procedures ensure that your contacts will fit comfortably and give you the clearest vision possible. Kids Eye Exams

A lifetime of healthy vision starts at a young age. The rapid changes a child goes through in the first six years of life are critical in the development of good eyesight. This frame represents a “vulnerability” period – and during this period children are most susceptible to harmful vision changes. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), 1 in 5 preschoolers have vision problems and by the time they enter school, 25% will need or wear corrective lenses.

Comprehensive eye exams by an eye doctor (doctor of optometry or ophthalmologist) can diagnose a spectrum of conditions not captured by routine screening tools, as well as provide a baseline against which to compare future tests. Eye and vision care needs to be given the same level of attention and importance as other standard medical practices in children.

Children may not be aware they are having vision problems. Vision problems are associated with delayed development, poor performance in school and social settings, and low self-esteem. Therefore, the sooner eye problems are identified and addressed, the better the outcome in childhood and beyond.

This are recommended vision guidelines from the AOA:

Preschoolers

Preschoolers should receive at least one in-person, comprehensive eye exam between the ages of 3 and 5 to prevent or diagnose any condition that may have long-term effects

School-aged children

School-aged children (6 to 18 years) should receive a comprehensive in-person exam prior to entering the first grade and annually thereafter

We love to examine kids at our office and we are comfortable to see children as young as 3 years old.

Glasses Repairs and Adjustments

Glasses can easily fall out of adjustment over time. They may also get bent or an accessary, such as a screw or nose pad, may go missing and we have many tools to realign or fix glasses. We are able to make many repairs in the office. Please walk in if you need any help with glasses repairs or adjustments!

Eye Disease Screening

We perform retinal screenings on every patient to enable our doctors to discover, diagnose, document and treat ocular pathology. Optos introduced ultra-widefield (UWF™) retinal imaging. We make doing this a standard for every annual exam, regardless if you don’t depend on corrective lenses or have any history of eye diseases or problems. This technology can often replace the need for traditional dilation and provides the doctors so much detail and value in examining your eye health. This screening is painless and takes a few minutes to do.

We use this equipment to screen patients for ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments and much more! It can also help us detect high blood pressure, diabetes, strokes, high cholesterol, tumors, cancers, autoimmune diseases and more!
